i promise not to say "its been too long"

hey peeps. so its been like 6 days since my last blog entry, and let me tell ya - what a fun-filled, action packed, rip-snorter of a few days! if you'd been me, you wouldn't have written anything in your blog either!

so i got my paper finished on wednesday, all 14,500 words of it, and on thursday attended the seminar for which the paper was written. thinking of the undying praise i would receive from my classmates: "your paper was just so enlightening", "wow, a real contribution to scholarship" etc., that sort of thing, I was giddy with excitement. instead, the prof's opening words went something like this: "so i'm not surprised if none of you read tim's paper since it was so long." to my horror my fellow classmates did not shout him down in protest, but nodded their heads in agreement! i was crushed. the skinny is that i have to pare the paper down to a respectable 10,000 before the prof will accept it. nasty pasty. nnyah.

on the social scene, we had some wonderful new friends (glenn and karin innes) over for dinner on friday night. it was a very relaxing and engaging night of food and discussion. glenn and i discovered we were kindred spirits regarding the "emerging church" movement, which is to say, in our likes and dislikes thereof. it was fun to share my vision for a proximity/green space (aka. a coffeehouse/artgallery/bookstore/cdshop/marketgarden) on the UBC campus, and to hear glenn's feedback. long may it continue! we finished the night off with a great round of “Coresanne” (I can’t remember how it’s spelt) a strange new “settlers-of-cattan” type game. life is good.

saturday night we (lissa and i) went to dinner for our wedding anniversary (6 years!). we didn’t choose a particularly romantic setting, but still, the food at the “afghan horsemen” was scrumpdiddlyumptious. and my eye-candy (i.e. my wife) couldn’t have been better! we had a good long chat about all things serious, silly and sublime. it was nice to catch up. sometimes the rigours of school, regent, church, and friends make it hard to keep up regular communication. it’s a constant struggle, so it was nice to have a long chat with my bestest friend in the whole world (besides jesus of course!) we talked about the church plant we’re doing here in canadia and re-energised our sense of calling and commitment to the project. we both affirmed how peaceful and supported we felt about it. it’s a big change in “life-plans” for us, but the “interruptions of the lord” are mysterious and difficult to ignore. after dinner we popped round to the “apartment under the cat”, where my friend erin who plays violin in my worship band (not “my friend erin” with the blog) was hosting a party. the party was fun, although we didn’t know many people, so we quickly did the rounds and spoke with the few folks we did know (and a couple of others – but they didn’t seem too interested after I introduced myself as tim the “evangelist. so do you know the lord?”) i drank one (maybe two) cosmo’s and then lissa and i left, meeting erin the blogger and shawna (aka the ‘slay) on the way out.

on sunday i lead worship at church which was funnnn as always. on sunday night our church members voted unanimously to purchase a property on the UBC campus as a future site for the plant we're doing. i was so moved (as the motion was so moved) that I felt a strange lightness in my chest. i felt like hugging everyone and doing a little dance. God is good. the significance of this move and the faith expressed by our church was awesome to see. God really is among us. later on sunday night i went to a “mulled wine and mince tart” partee at Ian’s house and it was filthy. i had a great time waxing eloquent with my friends: erin, the ‘slay, jimmee james, jules, mike the drummer, erin, romeo, and tracee the inspirational, among others. later i went for a too cold then too hot latte (no foam – aka a “flat white”) with jimmee, jen, the ‘slay and erin.

monday i marked papers (i'm a TA at regent) and had a meeting with dazza johnson about the possibility of renting the regent college chapel on Sundays. it went very well and i am encouraged in the lord. tuesday was staff meeting at pgcc and then in the evening lissa and i met up with some friends from oz for dinner at stephos. we ate garlic with lamb. and boy was it good.

‘tis all, ‘tis all. reminder: shorter, more frequent blogs, makes for happy blogging!
