Crikey! Tom understands!

in reference to my bbq entry, Tom has written a flattering and sensitive blog about the unbearable lightness of being an aussie (even though he's a pom - but not of the whinging variety I hasten to add). actully, the country is unbearably light, given that the hole in the ozone layer happens to rest right over it (thanks industrialised nations of the world). and thanks tom for being our personal "prawn crusader". come to think of it, i don't actually recall ever bbq-ing a prawn. i've seen my father in law do it on christmas day though. beer in one hand, tongs in the other, garlic praws and squid cooking on the barbie for breakfast, sun hot in the clear blue sky, swimming in the backyard pool at 10am. ahhh, nothing like christmas in oz.

whereas it was raining ice in vancouver today.

to those people who think i'm not australian because I don't have a mullet and don't speak like a yobbo, let's just say it's more a matter of personal choice than anything. how would you like to come from a country where your two most (in)famous cultural exports are a nutcase who likes to ride crocs (not to mention try and feed his children to them when he thinks no one is watching) and a beer that reminds me of... well, let's just say it probably isn't all that different from what you would find soaking into the burning sands of the sahara after a hoarde of camels have gone by.
