BBC NEWS: Google to scan famous libraries
It is rare that a news item floors me to the degree that this one has. Apparently, Google is in the process of scanning the 'public domain' works held in some the world's oldest, largest and best libraries. This is, perhaps one of the most incredible moments in the history of the internet. Think of it: I can now access (and search!) digital copies of the rare and ancient treasures of the Bodleian library, all from the comfort of my home PC. To quote one of the librarians interviewed in the article, "this [really is] the day the world changes."
I am gobsmacked! (and I think I just drooled on my keyboard).
