My thoughts exactly

Just read a great article on the "emerging church", it articulated some of my own thoughts very well. Hover your mousey over the title of this blog if you want to read it.

Don't get me wrong, I like the concept of the emerging church, but I also have a lot of concerns with it. Can one adopt some of principles of "being" that drive the movement without buying totally into the praxis? Or is it that we want to adopt the praxis and not the theory? Seems to me that is just being a finicky parasite. I guess the best thing to do would be honest and authentic and present where God has located you, and not try to do what everyone else is doing because it looks like they're having so much fun.

I bought a copy of Carson's new "Becoming Conversant with the Emerging Church" the other day. I haven't read it yet but I can guess what he says about the movement:

"It's wrong. It's dangerous. Admittedly, it's interesting, and they have some innovative ideas, and they're attracting lots of young people, but innovation is scary because there are too many ways in which you can go wrong when you try something new. In conclusion, the movement places too much emphasis on praxis and not enough on orthodox theology...

...besides, they're all a bunch of pelagian gits."
