On leading and following
In Christian circles, critique is often leveled at leaders for not leading well enough, for not being godly, spiritual, powerful, humble (etc!) enough; for not being a good enough preacher; for not being whatever and ever amen... Sometimes this critique is justified, sometimes it isn't...
On the other side of the coin, it is quite rare when the conversation and critique turns toward the "followers". What if the problem were not just that our leaders are lousy, but that we're often very lousy at following? If we were better followers, would our leaders also be better leaders? What if we prayed for and encouraged our leaders as often as we griped about them?
