Perfume!

I am SO EXCITED by some fantastic news I just serendipitously discovered. One of my favourite novels, Perfume by Patrick Suskind, is being made into a movie and will be directed by none other than Tom Tykwer (Run Lola Run; The Princess and the Warrior; Heaven; True; Winter Sleepers), who is one the best directors around (Run Lola Run remains one of my all-time favourite films... after all, how can you fault a film that quotes TS Elliot in the opening credits!) I simply cannot think of a better person to direct this film! Oh yes!

And if you've never read Perfume, then you are missing out on one of the creepiest, funniest, olfactorally explorative, and creative critiques of the Enlightenment ever written. It also inspired Kurt Cobain (from Nirvana you dweebs) to write the song "Scentless Apprentice."

Read the first page and I guarantee you will be hooked. (By the way, the average customer rating for this book at Amazon.com is 4.5 stars after 310 reviews! And, I GUARANTEE this book will never ever make it onto Oprah's book club list. If that fact alone doesn't make you nearly wet your pants in anticipation at the thought that YOU TOO can read this book, then you are a shirtlifter and don't deserve to read it anyway.)
